Azerbaijan Visa for Pakistani Passport Holders — Pakistan to Azerbaijan Distance, Flights & e-Visa Guide

For Pakistani travelers, Azerbaijan feels both distant and surprisingly reachable. The country sits roughly 3,500 to 4,000 kilometres west of Pakistan in a straight line, depending on which Pakistani city you fly from. From Karachi to Baku the great-circle distance is approximately 3,540 km; Islamabad to Baku is about 3,820 km; and Lahore to Baku around 3,720 km. There are currently no scheduled direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, so almost every traveler connects through a Gulf hub — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Sharjah or Muscat. Total travel time, including a short layover, usually falls between 7.5 and 11 hours, which makes Azerbaijan a very feasible one-overnight journey from any major Pakistani city. The good news for Pakistani passport holders is that the entire visa process is now online: the Azerbaijan e-Visa can be applied for from your laptop or phone, reviewed by a real consultant, and delivered to your inbox before you ever step into the airport.

Distances and flight times at a glance

Karachi (KHI) to Baku (GYD) is the shortest hop at roughly 3,540 km, with one-stop flights typically taking 8 to 10 hours including a layover. Lahore (LHE) to Baku runs around 3,720 km with 9 to 11 hours of total travel time. Islamabad (ISB) to Baku, at about 3,820 km, is the longest of the three but still comfortably an overnight journey. Faisalabad, Multan, and Peshawar travelers usually route via Karachi or via a direct Gulf-bound flight from their home airport. Whichever city you start from, the Azerbaijani gateway is almost always Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), with onward domestic flights to Sheki, Quba and the Caspian Sea resorts.

Most reliable flight routings

Emirates and flydubai via Dubai International (DXB), Etihad via Abu Dhabi (AUH), Qatar Airways via Doha (DOH), Oman Air via Muscat (MCT) and Saudia via Jeddah (JED) operate the most frequent and well-timed connections from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to Baku (GYD). For Caspian Sea destinations such as Ganja (KVD) or Nakhchivan (NAJ), the same Gulf carriers offer convenient one-stop options, particularly during the European winter season when leisure demand to Azerbaijan peaks.

Can you travel overland from Pakistan to Azerbaijan?

An overland journey is technically possible but practically very challenging. It would involve crossing Iran, Iraq or Turkey, then Syria or Jordan, and finally entering Azerbaijan through the Nakhchivan exclave. Security, visa and border-crossing conditions on this route change frequently, and several segments are not currently recommended for international travelers. For nearly all Pakistani travelers, a one-stop flight remains the safest, fastest and most cost-effective option, and the savings on time, transit visas and accommodation along the way easily outweigh any difference in airfare.

Azerbaijan e-Visa for Pakistani passport holders

Pakistani nationals are eligible to apply for the Azerbaijan e-Visa online and no longer need to visit the embassy in person for most tourist trips. You will need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of arrival in Azerbaijan, a clear scan of the bio page (all four corners visible, no glare), a recent passport-style photograph against a plain background, your flight and hotel details, and a payment method. The single-entry tourist e-Visa allows up to 30 days of continuous stay and is valid for 90 days from issue. Standard processing through Azerbaijan Visit takes one to three Azerbaijani business days; our rush service typically returns approval within 24 hours. If your trip is less than a week away, choose rush. If you are flexible, standard is the most economical route.

Baku airport arrival — what to expect

Most Pakistani travelers land at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), which has three terminals. Gulf carriers usually arrive at Terminal 2, while AzerbaijanAir uses Terminal 3. After disembarking, follow the signs to passport control, where the officer will scan your passport and retrieve your e-Visa electronically. We still recommend carrying a printed copy as a backup. Once through immigration, baggage reclaim is straightforward and there are official airport taxi counters, a metered Uber/Careem option, and pre-booked hotel transfers. Allow around 45 minutes from arrival gate to taxi if you are travelling alone, and 90 minutes for a family group.

Best time to visit Azerbaijan from Pakistan

October through April is the most comfortable window for sightseeing in Baku, Sheki and Quba, with daytime temperatures between 20°C and 28°C — ideal for walking the Old City and Flame Towers. For Caspian Sea beach holidays, the shoulder months of May, June, September and October offer warm water and lower hotel rates than the July–August peak. Ramadan in Azerbaijan is a special cultural experience that many Pakistani Muslim travelers actively seek out: iftar at a Caspian-side restaurant in Baku or an evening stroll through Icherisheher after taraweeh prayers is unforgettable. Plan ahead — Ramadan rates often book out months in advance.

What Pakistani travelers ask us most

The three questions our consultants hear most often from Pakistani applicants are: Do I need to provide proof of funds? How strict is the six-month passport validity rule? And can I bring my Pakistani-resident parents on a single application? The answers, in short: a recent bank statement is occasionally requested but not always required; the six-month rule is enforced strictly at the border, so renew your passport early; and yes, families can apply together and we recommend grouping linked applications so that arrival dates and accommodation match.
