Azerbaijan vs Georgia e-Visa in 2026 — Which One Is Easier, Cheaper and Better for Your Trip?

Azerbaijan and Georgia are the two most-visited countries in the South Caucasus, and the two e-Visa programmes are frequently compared by travelers who want to see both. The good news: both programmes are now mature, online-first, and accessible to most nationalities. The differences — in fees, eligibility, processing times, multiple-entry options, and overland transit — are real and worth understanding before you commit to an itinerary. This guide compares the two systems honestly, written by consultants who handle applications for both every working day.

Eligibility — who can apply for each?

Both programmes accept more than 90 nationalities online. Azerbaijan accepts virtually all major source markets including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Egypt, Nigeria, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, China and most Western countries. Georgia's online programme is slightly narrower but also covers the major Asian, Middle Eastern and African source markets, and Georgia additionally offers visa-free entry to a longer list of CIS, EU and Western Hemisphere nationalities. If you are already visa-free for Georgia, your only real online application is Azerbaijan.

Fees in 2026

Azerbaijan: USD 26 government fee, USD 60 urgent. Through a consultancy like Azerbaijan Visit the all-in cost is approximately USD 50 standard or USD 90 rush. Georgia: roughly USD 20–25 for the standard online e-Visa, slightly higher with a consultancy. Both programmes are inexpensive compared to traditional embassy visas; the deciding factor is almost never the fee itself but the speed, support quality and rejection rate of the channel you choose.

Processing time

Azerbaijan: 3 working days standard, 3 hours rush — both reliable. Georgia: 5–10 working days standard, with no formal rush option. If your trip is in the next 48–72 hours, Azerbaijan is structurally faster and is often the only realistic legal option. If you have two weeks of lead time, both work fine.

Single vs multiple entry

Azerbaijan: the e-Visa is single-entry by default with a 30-day stay window. Multiple-entry e-Visas are available for business travelers and frequent visitors. Georgia: standard e-Visa is also single-entry but Georgia generally allows longer stays (up to 90 days) and more flexible re-entry conditions. Travelers planning to loop Baku → Tbilisi → Yerevan → back to Baku should plan their entries carefully — and remember that travelers with Armenian stamps may face questioning at the Azerbaijani border.

Overland border crossings — Baku → Tbilisi by train

The overnight sleeper train between Baku and Tbilisi is one of the great Caucasus experiences, but you must have an approved e-Visa for whichever country you are entering before boarding. Both Azerbaijan and Georgia operate well-organised land borders with electronic e-Visa look-up, so paper print-outs are no longer strictly required at the border — though we still recommend bringing one. Allow 60–90 minutes for the land-border process.

Which should you apply for first?

If your flights land in Baku, apply for the Azerbaijan e-Visa first (we recommend our rush service if you have under a week). If your flights land in Tbilisi and you plan to add Azerbaijan as a side trip, apply for both — start the Georgia e-Visa earlier because of its longer processing window, and add the Azerbaijan e-Visa once your Tbilisi → Baku train or flight is booked. Either way, plan to have both approved before you leave home; in-country applications are not the norm in either country.

The honest verdict

For first-time visitors, Azerbaijan offers the better online experience in 2026: faster processing, a reliable rush option, and a more predictable approval window. Georgia offers slightly cheaper fees, more visa-free nationalities and longer permitted stays. For most travelers the two programmes are complementary rather than competing — apply for both and enjoy the most rewarding two-country trip in the Caucasus.
